EIGHTEEN AFP GENERAL/FLAG AND SENIOR OFFICERS GET CA NOD
The ad interim appointments of 18 Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) general/flag and senior officers were confirmed by the Commission on Appointments (CA) today during its plenary session presided by President of the Senate / Chairman of the Commission Franklin M. Drilon.
The confirmation of the AFP officers came on the same day that the Commission’s defense committee, headed by Rep. Antonio A. Del Rosario, deliberated on their ad interim appointments.
At the start of the defense committee hearing, Majority Floor Leader Rodolfo C. Fariñas made a manifestation that should serve as a notice to the AFP and the CA Secretariat “to inform all appointees and nominees, that we (the CA Members), will take our jobs seriously... this (the confirmation process) is not a halo exercise.” His manifestation was prompted upon notice of a wrong entry in one of the appointee’s profile. He, then, reminded the appointees to be more cautious in filling-out and submitting their documentary requirements to the Commission. He, likewise, vowed to make it his “religious exercise” to verify the correctness of the details submitted by the appointees and remind them to extend courtesy to the members of the Commission.
Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus B. Rodriguez, for his part, commended the CA Secretariat for doing a great job in its profile and background investigation of the appointees and nominees submitted before the body. Being satisfied with the appointees’ answers to his queries during the deliberations, Rodriguez made an omnibus motion in recommending the AFP officers’ confirmation to the plenary that was duly seconded by Sen. Loren Legarda.
During the plenary, Del Rosario made a motion in recommending the AFP officers’ confirmation with no objections raised.
Lieutenant General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang, Jr. headed the list of the AFP senior officers whose ad interim appointments were confirmed by the Commission.
Among the other ad interim appointments approved were those of:
