FORTY NINE AFP GENERAL/FLAG AND SENIOR OFFICERS PASS CA SCRUTINY

The ad interim appointments of 49 Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) general/flag and senior officers were confirmed by the Commission on Appointments (CA) yesterday during its plenary session presided by President of the Senate / Chairman of the Commission Franklin M. Drilon.

The confirmation of the AFP senior officers in the plenary came after the Commission held an unprecedented four different committee hearings on the same day, deliberating on the appointments of Social Welfare Secretary Corazon J. Soliman (Committee on Labor, Employment and Social Welfare), Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima (Committee on Justice and Judicial Bar and Council) and Commission on Audit (COA) Commissioner Heidi L. Mendoza (Committee on Constitutional Commissions and Offices).

Committee on National Defense chair Rep. Antonio A. Del Rosario, deliberated on the AFP officers’ ad interim appointments and made a motion recommending their confirmation to the plenary with no objections raised.

Lieutenant Generals Virgilio O. Domingo, Hernando DCA Iriberri and Jeffrey F . Delgado headed the list of the AFP officers whose ad interim appointments were confirmed by the Commission.

Social Welfare Secretary Soliman’s ad interim appointment, on the other hand, was also recommended for confirmation by the members of the labor and social welfare committee headed by Rep. Conrado M. Estrella III. Her appointment’s confirmation, however, was deferred until next week’s plenary session of the Commission. Likewise, deliberations on the appointments of Justice Secretary De Lima and COA Commissioner Mendoza were suspended and scheduled for continuation next week.
